As part of the 3rd United Nations Ocean Conference (UNOC-3), and one year after the 4th United Nations Conference on Small Island Developing States (SIDS) in Antigua and Barbuda, the World Islands Forum brings together island heads of state and government, and representatives from all sea regions, from the Indian Ocean to the Pacific, from the Mediterranean to the CarrIbbean. The French overseas territories will also participate, as part of the process of integrating these territories into their regional environment.

In the face of the existential risk that rising sea levels represent for a number of island states and ultraperipheral territories, and in particular for our overseas territories, the Wordl Islands Forum is a dedicated space for dialogue and visibility in a year marks the tenth anniversary of the Paris Agreement.

Islands are singular spaces of governance with fundamental relationship to the sea, and are already developing initiatives in favor of the development of the blue economy and finance, for the resilience of populations and the protection of the environment, different from continental worlds.

This forum will highlight the many existential challenges facing Small Island Developing States, as well as continental countries with the Island territories. These challenges, such as sea-level rise, plastic pollution and biodiversity protection, will be discussed at the high-level panels, with the aim of raising the collective level of ambition.

Dozens of countries, international and regional organizations, development banks, the private sector and civil society have been invited to this global forum, the first of its kind.

The forum is co-chaired by Thani Mohamed-Soilihi, Minister Delegate for Francophonie and International Partnerships of France, Mia Mottley, Prime Minister of Barbados, and Surangel Whipps, President of Palau.
